Benchmarks Data Protection Policy

We at Greater Public are committed to protecting your benchmarks data.

Greater Public’s Promise:

Greater Public’s Benchmarks For Public Radio Fundraising gathers data from public media stations in an effort to deliver accurate and actionable reports to help stations reach their fundraising potential and understand the revenue environment of the public media system. Ensuring the privacy of this data is of utmost importance to us. Greater Public does not share Benchmarks information with non-participating stations or third party entities, except the service provider that assists with data compilations, reports, and troubleshooting. This third party service provider has access to station information only as needed to perform their functions and has signed a privacy agreement with Greater Public.

Participating Station’s Responsibility:

Public media stations participating in Greater Public’s Benchmarks for Public Radio Fundraising have the responsibility to protect the confidentiality of their information and that information of other stations.

Participating stations’ use of Benchmarks data must adhere to the following:

  • Trend reports, peer reports, and consultation slide decks may be shared with station staff, board members, and volunteers. Reports can be shared with outside consultants who are under contract with a participating station and should treat this data with the same high level of confidentiality they would the data and information of the contracting station.
  • In special circumstances where external sharing of Benchmarks data is required for fundraising, stations may share peer data if they remove the other stations’ names and call letters from the report or if they receive special permission from those stations. (Example of such circumstances: sharing data with donors or legislators.)
  • Peer reports may not be sent from station to station, regardless of the participation status of the stations. (If a station requests Benchmarks data from your station, please refer them to Greater Public for assistance.)

Benchmarks’s success relies on participation from public media stations. Keeping gathered data available to only stations who participate increases station participation, thus providing more data for peer reports and measurements for success.
