Application Deadline: Friday, Dec 27, 2019

Description

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Summary

Capital Public Radio is looking for a full-time Senior News Editor to join its award-winning and fast-growing team. As one of CapRadio’s newsroom leaders, the Senior News Editor wears several hats:

  • helps assign, oversee and edit daily news coverage for broadcast, digital and other platforms
  • edits feature stories and enterprise projects, and works with reporters to develop concepts
  • collaborates on “big picture” goals and special projects, such as election coverage and podcasts
  • is an essential player when it comes to team-building and developing reporter skills
  • occasionally gets in the trenches and delivers daily news stories, two-way interviews and features; anchors CapRadio newscasts; and makes appearances on CapRadio “talk” programs such as Insight

We are looking for an experienced journalist with clear-headed news judgment and several years of editorial experience. Instincts for what distinguishes a “public radio story” are essential.

Relationships matter, and the Senior News Editor needs to be someone who supports CapRadio staff via meetings and one-on-one check-ins.

The ideal candidate will have a background working in radio and with audio-editing software. But this is not a requirement: We’re focused on building a diverse and inclusive team, so if you’re excited about this position but may not meet all of the qualifications, we encourage you to apply.

A passion for NPR and public-service journalism is a must.
