he Major Gifts Officer at WMHT Public Media is responsible for raising financial support that is substantial in size and has a permanent impact on the organization’s future.
Building on a track record of philanthropy and engagement, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will be part an externally-facing fundraising team working collaboratively and transparently with the President, the Chief Development Officer, staff, and board members to cultivate and broaden the local and regional donor constituencies to secure major gifts from individuals and foundations to meet the annual operating, restricted, and capital needs of WMHT Public Media.
Responsibilities:
Identify and actively solicit donors and foundations for significant gifts to WMHT Public Media.
Actively manage a portfolio of approximately 150 current donors, prospects, and foundations, meeting goals for revenue, contacts and solicitations.
Raise annual, restricted, grant, and capital funds.
Steward existing donors, with a goal of ensuring a significant increase in philanthropic revenue.
Effectively identify new prospects from a variety of sources, including the existing database, event attendees, research, and community members.
Identify, cultivate, track and solicit significant gifts.
Engage new prospects through active outreach.
Discuss planned giving options with donors and prospects as appropriate.
Collaborate closely with and be an effective member of the Development team.
Accurately and passionately communicate the value of WMHT, and public media, and the importance of all that we do for the community.
Participate in station outreach activities.
Perform other development activities as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring initiative and entrepreneurial spirit to the task of raising funds for WMHT Public Media, both for the short and long-term good of the organization.
They will have: A minimum of five years of frontline major gifts experience, including direct, personal major donor solicitation.
A proven track record of securing four and five-figure (and higher) gifts and proven success managing donor relationships, including with high-net worth individuals.
A working knowledge of planned giving and planned giving options.
A strong commitment to public media, the arts and a belief in its beneficial impact on our society.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, and analytical skills.
Ability to travel locally for donor visits (approximately 75 – 100 visits annually).
An energetic, curious, flexible and tenacious demeanor.
Proficiency in working with a database, Excel and Microsoft Office, doing research on the internet.
A bachelor’s degree or higher.

This is a Full-Time, Exempt Position. 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, flexibility in schedule required
