The Major Gifts Program Director (MGPD) will design and coordinate the delivery of major gifts programs and services intended to expand the fundraising capacity at several levels within the INN member network: start-ups and early stage; growing newsrooms and well-established organizations. The MGPD will encourage the use of best practices in major gift fundraising, strengthen the culture of fundraising in the field and build INN’s professional support structure for development staff working to fund quality journalism. Additionally, the MGPD will develop and track success metrics to meet organizational performance goals, evaluate and guide programming.

 

Desired Experience and Education

 

  • 5-10 years of major gift experience in a midsize organization. Proven success in securing four- to seven-figure gifts
  • Previous experience with the range of development activities such as individual giving, annual fundraising appeals, special events, deferred giving
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, and advocating for fundraising best practices within an organization, for agency clients or across an association
  • Ability to tailor programs to a range of development operations within startups, midsize, and large organizations
  • Ability to communicate with a range of members and their constituencies
  • Significant interest in the growing field of nonprofit news and accelerating the growth of a young, fast-growing area of philanthropy
  • Strong organizational and self-directional skills are a must
  • The position can be based anywhere with strong WiFi and ready access to a major airport.  INN is a distributed team. Previous experience working with a remote team would be helpful, but we’ll do whatever we can to help and support your transition if this is your first job working with distributed teams
  • Bachelor’s degree required
