ABOUT THE KVMR COMMUNITY
KVMR-FM is a community radio station located in Nevada City, California. Founded in 1978, KVMR has grown steadily and now reaches audiences from the Sacramento Valley to the Lake Tahoe region, and around the world on kvmr.org. In recent years, KVMR has added an online-only stream for younger, contemporary audiences, kvmrx.org, and launched a local station to provide news, ideas and cultural programming by day (largely syndicated) and an FM venue for kvmrx.org content evenings and weekends. KVMR is highly respected source of community connection with diverse programs driven by over 200 volunteer broadcasters, ranging from thought-provoking interviews and public affairs to every spot on the musical spectrum.
Nevada City and neighboring Grass Valley are small towns in the Sierra Nevada foothills, rich in history and natural beauty. We have a vibrant artistic, literary and musical tradition that has enticed many residents away from the San Francisco Bay Area. Situated an hour from Sacramento and Lake Tahoe and three hours from San Francisco, we offer a sophisticated, yet warm and welcoming place to live. Our region is known for its breathtaking natural scenery, and attracts people who love the outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, and boating, yet want to live in an intellectually and artistically vibrant community.
Cornerstones of our region’s cultural life, attracting visitors from across the country, are the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, California WorldFest, Strawberry Music Festival, Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival and KVMR’s own Celtic Festival. KVMR features live broadcasts of these music festivals and other frequent regional concerts.
ABOUT THE POSITION
KVMR is looking for an energetic, visionary, and community-minded General Manager who can continue the station’s evolution through evocative programming and community involvement. With recently constructed state-of-the art broadcast, production, and performance facilities; a large cast of creative volunteer broadcasters; an engaged, supportive board; and a dedicated and talented staff, KVMR’s next General Manager will have the opportunity to lead the station into its next chapter as a vital media resource.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who has demonstrated experience in team-building and community engagement; is able to lead, manage and motivate a small staff along with a large group of volunteers; can successfully promote KVMR to expand its audience; and is experienced in fund development, with a strong commitment to building and maintaining positive relationships with donors and underwriters. The successful candidate will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of the team brings to KVMR’s mission. While the General Manager must bring efficient and effective management skills to ensure the productivity of the organization, it is also critical that s/he be committed to retaining the creative spark that drives the excellence in broadcasting for which KVMR is known, and to leading the station in evaluating and embracing new technologies that continue to change the face of radio in the 21st century .
Position Type: Full-time, Exempt
Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
